As an artist, Carlson seeks to expand and challenge our receptivity beyond our preconceived notions and thoughts. “What is the nature of reality?” is a constant question while working in the studio. His work is influenced by travel, Taoist meditation, and the natural world.
Through Take Me to the River, he has collaborated with composers, artists, and dancers for video projects that embrace humanistic and environmental concepts international in scope.
Carlson’s exhibitions include 25 Solo and numerous Group shows, Cultural Exchanges and Festivals since 1986. His works have been shown in China, Egypt, France, Germany, Italy, Kazakhstan, Morocco, Senegal, South Africa, Turkey, Uruguay, Uzbekistan, and multiple venues in the United States. Numerous works are included in local, national and international collections.
